Are you working with a group that is growing food to eat?

How to run a gardenng club is our Train the Trainers course. We meet for 8 monthy twilight sessions across the growing season.  There is a mixture of  theory and practical activities with plenty of opportunities for sharing and reflecting on your experiences with other participants. 

The course aims to train, enthuse and support volunteers/ staff in how to develop and maintain a food-growing garden. 
  • Developing participants practical gardening skills from seed sowing to harvesting
  • Sharing ideas that link the outdoor classroom with the curriculum and or wellbeing outcomes
  • Exploring how to use food growing to promote social cohesion and healthy life styles

Course content:

  • The course is based around seasonal garden tasks.

  • Each month we will look at a different gardening activity.

  • There are pleanty of resources we can share to use with your group, from session plans and worksheets to where to source growing materials, plants and seeds.

  • Topics like health and saftey and managment planning are woven into each session.

  • There will be opportunity to visit a Food4Families session and to lead a small group activity.

Who attends?

We have a mixture of people who run regular growing sessions all over Reading. You can meet with like minded others and share hints and tips weather you work in a school, public allotment, community garden, residential or NHS setting.
