Growing Careers

A practical, hands-on introduction to what you could be doing if you got a job in horticulture, run at our local community gardens by one of our experienced Community Garden Tutors. Come and learn about everything from seed sowing to soil health, permaculture practices to sustainable soil management.

Our Growing Careers courses are tailored by our tutors to your experience and interests. Each person works on an individual learning plan with their Garden Tutor, working at a pace they feel comfortable with.
Courses are run from two of our network of Community Gardens:
On Thursdays during term time at Lavender Place Community Gardens in Central Reading (next to The Hexagon), RG1 7AE.
On Fridays during term time at Whitley GrowAllot in Meavy Gardens, Whitley, RG2 7RD.
All our Growing Careers courses are
- Run in small groups & socially distanced,
- Have all equipment, tools, seeds provided,
- For those on low incomes travel costs can be refunded.
These courses are fully funded by for many people. For some we are sad to say that they are no longer fully funded, but we have other events and courses which will be. If you find that you are not eligible for a funded place, please contact us in the office.
