Veg4Reading

Grow for Reading

In 2020 the Veg4Reading project delivered nearly a tonne of fresh fruit and vegetables for free distribution to people in Reading badly affected by the Coronavirus crisis. And in 2021 we grew even more, hitting 1¾ tonnes.

We'd like to grow even more this year.

Can you help us by sowing seeds at home?

First signs of growing!

Already growing your own from seed? Please sow a few extra for us.

Beginner gardener? Seeds, compost and pots can be provided. We will run a series of workshops, initially online, to help you.

Seedlings will be planted out in our network of community gardens in the spring.

All the vegetables grown will benefit the local community, including distribution via community associations, food banks, shelters and faith groups.

Jules with her donated seedlings

Jules of Garden Jewels Ltd kindly grew all these amazing seedlings for the Grow for Reading project.

If you have been growing seedlings for the project, or have spare seedlings that you would like to donate, please get in touch to organise delivery.

To register your interest, please contact us.

Spread the word

We'd really love everyone to join in with this initiative. It is exciting to watch seedlings grow and makes a great project for kids. And we all need something to look forward to!

Tell all your friends and colleagues and mention it on social media.

You can download the poster and display it on your local notice board.

And please post photos on social media of your seedlings as they grow using the hashtag #Veg4Reading.
